South Bay is a small, family owned and operated regional auction house providing personal service to assist you with selling a single item or entire estates. As a traditional auction house, South Bay Auctions is a service company. We work with you to identify, evaluate and then sell your Artwork, Antiques, Collectibles, Folk Art, Antique & Modern Furniture, Jewelry, Silver, Garden Furniture & Ornaments, Field & Stream Sporting Items, and more.
Our goal is to achieve the highest possible price for your items through the public auction process. With repeat customers around the globe, a large email broadcast list, local mailers, trade site & paper advertising, as well as online auction platforms, Invaluable & LiveAuctioneers, we ensure a highly competitive bidding environment.
The Consignment Process
1. Consignment Inquiry
- We invite you to send us some photos of the items you are interested in having us sell for you. If it is an entire estate or a large quantity of items, please take some room shots to give us an idea of the type of items you have.
- Once we determine that we are able to assist you, a site visit can be arranged where we do an inspection of your collection.
- After an evaluation has been made by our staff, we will send you a list of those items best suited for one of our auctions.
2. Consign Your Items
- Once you have reviewed our list and decided that you would like to proceed, we will schedule a time for you to bring in your item(s), or if you are not able to, we can arrange for a pickup.
- You will receive a detailed line-item list on our contract form so that it is easy for you to keep track of what we have in our possession.
3. Auction
- Your items are cataloged, vetted and photographed.
- Approximately two weeks prior to the live auction, an online catalogue is posted to our website and the third-party auction platforms, LiveAuctioneers and Invaluable.
- A preview is open to the public for inspection the week prior to a sale.
- You are welcome to attend the auction in-person or online. Please note that the law prohibits you from bidding on your own items.
- Assuming your item is sold and paid for, a check is issued to you for the sale proceeds, less our fees, approximately 45 days after the sale.
