Pair of 18th century midrib shell back teaspoons, William Northey, Salem, MA, circa 1770, having full bowls, well preserved 13-lobed shell backs, and long raised bowl drops. Wide cross hatched block letter monogram ''P'' on back of each. Marked ''WN'' in rectangular cartouche, the ''N'' noticeably slanted. Superior condition bowls. 4-1/8''l. Total approximate weight 0.49 troy oz. Provenance: Thieves Market, Doug Henry, Alexandria, VA, 1975. Literature: ''Colonial Massachusetts Silversmiths and Jewelers,'' by Patricia Kane, 1998, New Haven: Yale University Art Gallery, page 729, figure A.
