Pair of early southern square end tablespoons, Alexander Young, Camden, SC, 1810, with slightly upturned bowls, squarish raised bowl drops, the handles tapering to a rounded square end. Each handle is finely engraved with a horse in profile standing on a dimpled ground. The back of the handles with a ridge beyond the touchmark. Marked ''YOUNG'' in serrated rectangular cartouche. 9''l. Total approximate weight 5.0 troy oz. Provenance: Mike Dunklin Antiques, Hendersonville, NC, 1990. Literature: ''South Carolina Silversmiths 1690-1860,'' by E. Milby Burton, Tuttle edition, 1968, North Clarendon, VT: Tuttle Publishing, page 11. Note: Camden has a long tradition with the raising and racing of horses.
