Description:

Rare 18th century American silver teapot, Otto Paul De Parisen, New York City, NY, circa 1765, with pinecone finial attached to hinged, narrow circumference engraved domed lid, molded gooseneck spout, upper handle and double bellied body supported by a step molded foot. Upper body and hinge area are similarly engraved with meandering vines and a repeating scroll pattern. Marked twice ''OPDP'' in rectangular cartouche under base. Wood handle is a later replacement, the hinge undisturbed with some play. 6-3/4''h, 9-3/4''w, 5''d. Total approximate weight 19.5 troy oz. Provenance: Robert Jackson, Ann Gillooly, 1995. Note: This is the earliest American teapot in the Williams Collection, being a rare survival of pre-Revolutionary New York silver by this accomplished silversmith.
