Description:

18th century Federal sugar urn, Isaac Hutton, Albany, NY, circa 1795, having a domed pagoda shape lid with urn finial, conical basin, and a square base with tapering shaft. Both the cover and the base are delicately beaded and lightly engraved. Opposing sides of the body are engraved with garlands and crossed fronds surrounding shield cartouches, one is monogrammed ''CP'', the other is monogrammed ''WP''. Maker's mark ''HUTTON'' on one edge of foot, with ''ALBANY'' mark on another edge of the foot. The cover and base have some degree of restoration. 9-1/4''h, 4-1/2''dia. Total approximate weight 10.4 troy oz. Provenance: Americana Antique & Art Gallery, Falls Church, VA, 1985.
