Description:

Hollow drake broadbill decoy by unknown maker, Stratford, Connecticut, with ''Mackey'' stamp and ''R. I. Culver'' brand. This bird appears on page 127 in ''Connecticut Decoys, Carvers, and Gunners'' by Henry C. Chitwood. The bottom is shown on page 128. The early overpaint and cut around the back of the bill may also suggest that Culver was involved in the repair. The brief description says it was owned and branded by Reginald Culver. 5-3/4''h, 13-1/4''l, 6''w. Provenance: Estate of Joseph ''Jay'' St. Mark, PhD, of Newtown, Connecticut, historian, appraiser, and collector of fine Americana.
