Group of (5) Georgian and Victorian sterling silver snuff boxes with crests.
London, early 19th century, some with gold-washed interiors, most with hinged lids, to include: George III square box, probably William Parker, 1812, the ribbed-edge lid having Greek key border enclosing a shield-form escutcheon with checkered field and the letter "M" surrounded by a floral border in the upper left and lower right quadrants; George III rectangular box, probably William Parker, 1815, the ribbed-edge lid engraved with crest, possibly for the Algeo family, having fallen tree stump with branch reaching upwards, surrounded by belt with inscription in Latin "Non Deficit Alter" ["When One Is Torn Away, Another Succeeds"]; George III engine-turned box with applied foliate borders, Alexander J. Strachan, 1817, having top and bottom with scrolled foliate borders, sides with laurel borders, the lid engraved with an escutcheon having left half with striped field and right half with a trio of birds over a shield, the escutcheon surrounded by scrolled foliate design; George III round box with removeable cover, possibly John Death or John Douglas, 1819, the ribbed-edge lid having a ribbon-tied, shield-form escutcheon with a rampant lion flanked by diagonal stripes, all surrounded by foliate design, and the body having crest with flowers over a scrolled foliate script "B" monogram; and a Victorian round box, 1838, the lid having crest for the Wood family or clan with a three-masted ship under a banner inscribed "Tutus in Undis" ["Safe on the Waves"], surrounded by an engraved rocaille border, and having an applied finger grip with scrolled foliate design, hallmarked with "T.D" maker's mark in rectangular cartouche.

Provenance: Richard Archer Collection, Pittsburgh, PA.

  • Dimensions: Larger (engine-turned rectangular) 3 3/4 x 2 1/2 x 1 in. (9.5 x 6.4 x 2.5 cm.); total approximate weight 17.5 troy oz.
  • Condition: Scratches, minor wear. Larger round box with minor dent to cover and possible repairs.

3. Pickup at our gallery. We are located at 485 Montauk Hwy, East Moriches, NY 11940. We are open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm for pickup. If picking up, applicable local sales tax will be added to your invoice. Please contact us before coming so we can retrieve your item(s).
4. If you purchased furniture or very large items, please email us and we can provide you a list of shippers to contact.
5. Naturally, you can also use an outside shipper of your choice.
