Group of (5) Georgian and Victorian sterling silver vinaigrettes.
Most with gilt grills, to include: George III articulated fish vinaigrette, William Lea & Co., Birmingham, 1817, having articulated body with engraved details and hinged head opening to reveal grill with scrolled foliate design, along with fitted case; George III shell-form vinaigrette, Birmingham, 1811, having grill with engraved scrolled floral design; George IV engine-turned vinaigrette with rocaille scrolled borders in relief, John Thropp or Joseph Taylor, Birmingham, 1826, one side engraved with crest for the Leith or Lethe family, having a Byzantine-style cross under a banner inscribed with the motto "Trustie To The End" ["Trustworthy To The End"]; Victorian engine-turned vinaigrette, Edward Smith, Birmingham, 1859, of rectangular form with scalloped edges, the sides engraved with scrolled foliate design, and the cover engraved with crest having spread-wing bird carrying a branch in its beak, surrounded by the inscription "Da Nobis Lucem Domine" ["Give to Us Your Light, Lord"], having grill with scrolled floral and foliate design; and round vinaigrette, possibly Thomas Hughes, Birmingham, c. 1809, having lid engraved with crest for the Ainsley family, depicting a raised arm holding a scimitar, surrounded by a belt inscribed with the motto "Pro Rege et Patria" ["For King and Country"].

Provenance: Richard Archer Collection, Pittsburgh, PA.

  • Dimensions: Fish vinaigrette (excluding chain) 3 3/8 x 1 x 5/8 in. (8.6 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm.); total approximate weight 4.4 troy oz.
  • Condition: Minor wear, some with minor dents or scratches. Fitted case for fish-form vinaigrette lacking one closure and with wear, dirt and grime, fraying to lining inside.

As a small auction house, we do not handle shipping internally. We do have a few options for you to choose from-

3. Pickup at our gallery. We are located at 485 Montauk Hwy, East Moriches, NY 11940. We are open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm for pickup. If picking up, applicable local sales tax will be added to your invoice. Please contact us before coming so we can retrieve your item(s).
4. If you purchased furniture or very large items, please email us and we can provide you a list of shippers to contact.
5. Naturally, you can also use an outside shipper of your choice.
