Hawthorne for saving Elsie Handworth from drowning at High Hill Beach, Long Island, NY, on August 6, 1922, all inscribed, comprising silver U.S. Coast Guard "Lifesaving" medal with eagle-form suspender, (medal reattached to suspender, ribbon possibly replaced), sterling silver State of New York "Comptroller's Award" on original backing card, sterling silver U.S. Volunteer Life Saving Corps "Non-Member Rescuer" medal, Tiffany & Co. bronze "The Life Saving Benevolent Association of New York" medal in original box, City of New York "Life Saving Service" medal on original backing card, and "Ralston Purina Hero Medal" on original backing card; Holy Name Society medal, depicting a profile and crosses, suspended from ribbon inscribed "Junior H.N.S., Holy Spirit Church, New York", (ribbon with fraying at one corner, inscription wearing off); Public Schools Athletic League "Sunday World, Field Days, 1919" medal, depicting a winged foot over the Statue of Liberty and two globes, in original Dieges & Clust box; Knights of Columbus wrestling medal with enamel decoration, depicting wresting men over the Knights of Columbus emblem, in original National Insignia Mfg. Co. box; and (7) metal religious pendants, comprising Pardon Crucifix, Miraculous medal with back inscribed "Diocese of Brooklyn Campaign", Pope Pius X relic, St. Thomas More medal with back inscribed "Lord Chancellor, Lawyer, Martyr, Saint of God", Jerusalem cross pendant having one side with image of Mary at center and other side with image of Jesus at center, double-sided rectangular pendant with Virgin of Carmel on one side and Jesus on other side, and double-sided octagonal pendant with Our Lady of Fatima on one side and Jesus on other side. Some with maker's marks, two marked "Sterling".

  • Dimensions: Coast Guard "Lifesaving" medal (overall) 4 7/8 x 2 1/4 in. (12.4 x 5.7 cm.); total approximate weight of three silver medals 4.2 troy oz. (132.1 grams)
  • Condition: Minor wear, some with minor dirt and grime.

As a small auction house, we do not handle shipping internally. We do have a few options for you to choose from-

3. Pickup at our gallery. We are located at 485 Montauk Hwy, East Moriches, NY 11940. We are open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm for pickup. If picking up, applicable local sales tax will be added to your invoice. Please contact us before coming so we can retrieve your item(s).
4. If you purchased furniture or very large items, please email us and we can provide you a list of shippers to contact.
5. Naturally, you can also use an outside shipper of your choice.
