Early New England large plump plover decoy with applied wings and chip-carved head. The bill is mortised into the head which may be a replacement. The bird has the inscribed inventory number ''27.FD 19-115''. The wings are held by two pegs for each wing. The paint is worn and shows in-use wear plus areas of shot spray. 5-3/4''h, 2-3/4''w, 10-1/4''l. Provenance: Estate of Joseph ''Jay'' St. Mark, PhD, of Newtown, Connecticut, historian, appraiser, and collector of fine Americana.
