Collection of (31) Photographs and Ephemera, Suffolk County, Long Island, late 19th/early 20th century
comprising (14) photographs and (17) ephemera.
Photographs to include: cabinet card portrait of a young man with a pennyfarthing bicycle, sitter identified on verso as Oliver Rice Yarrington of Sayville, New York, by O'Brien of Sayville; (4) snapshots of the U.S.S. Northern Pacific aground off Fire Island, January 1919; (3) showing homes destroyed by fire, one inscribed "Dr. Miles House after the fire."; (2) of sharks tied up/hanging from a pier, one a Real Photo Postcard; (2) copies of a view of a harbor with chandlery, 1898, one inscribed and dated in pencil on verso; two children at play indoors, 1927, inscribed and dated on verso, including names of subjects "Herbert Feldmuir [sic] and Louis Terry" from "Grandmother and Grandfather Noe"; and steam yachts in a harbor, (surface scratches and emulsion loss).
Ephemera to include: booklet by Clarence Ashton Wood, "Tales of an Island and its People: A Group of Historical Sketches About the Past of Long Island in the State of New York", Amityville, New York: reprinted from Long Island Forum, 1945; late 19th century notebook with handwritten records pertaining to horse breeding and pedigree; 1908 postcard with halftone printed photo of "Mexican Jacal at San Antonio, Texas", addressed to Mrs. John Otto, Sayville; business card of "Smith W. Weeks", Sailmaker, Bay Shore, New York; advertising postcard/order blank for "Jacob Ockers, wholesale dealer in Blue Point oysters and little neck clams, Oakdale Station"; "Greetings from the Pacific" Christmas card, from Sgt. Charles L. Weber to Herbert Feldmeier, postmarked 1944, along with blank Valentine's card; (2) 1860s billheads to John Scudder Havens of Patchogue, from New York City, South Street, proprietors, comprising S.T. Baker Groceries and Ship Chandlery, and C.B. Timpson & Lawrence, Ship Builders' Hardware Materials & Tools; partial billhead or bill for marine/chandlery supplies; 1875 handwritten billhead for horse, from Nat Hanley to John Egan; and (6) blank applications to Suffolk County Commissioners of Fisheries for a deed to a plot of underwater land for oyster cultivation, early 1900s, along with (1) blank deed.
- Condition: Photos with minor stains and abrasions, creasing, glue/paper residue from album mount. Ephemera with foxing toning, stains, and creasing.

3. Pickup at our gallery. We are located at 485 Montauk Hwy, East Moriches, NY 11940. We are open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm for pickup. If picking up, applicable local sales tax will be added to your invoice. Please contact us before coming so we can retrieve your item(s).
4. If you purchased furniture or very large items, please email us and we can provide you a list of shippers to contact.
5. Naturally, you can also use an outside shipper of your choice.
