Description:

Circa 1790-1800 coffeepot, Philadelphia, PA, with cupola top, goose neck spout, large chalice form body, and raised square base. The lid, spout, body, and base are finely decorated with matching beading. This coffeepot retains its original carved wood handle with remnants of the original black paint. Elaborately engraved flourished script monogram ''MS'' on one side. Unmarked, but purely Philadelphia in form, design, and proportions. Skillful repair to an old break on handle. 14-3/4''h, 10-1/2''w, 5-3/4''d. Total approximate weight 40.5 troy oz. Note: An almost identical pot, likely by the same hand or shop, seen in ''Catalogue of American Silver: The Cleveland Museum of Art,'' by Phillip M. Johnston, 1994, Cleveland: Cleveland Museum of Art, page 159.
