Fine early American silver tea caddy, William Ball, Baltimore, MD, circa 1800, with domed lid and bone finial, paneled body, and incurved corners. The lid and body are wriggle decorated with meandering vines and a tight swag motif. Each panel of the body is flat chased with a central flower and radiating leaves. The front and back sides are decorated with elaborately chased and engraved shields featuring bows and garlands. Maker's mark cleanly struck ''W. Ball'' in conforming cartouche under base. Appears to be in exceptional condition with interior lock and lock pin intact. 6''h, 5-1/2''w, 4''d. Total approximate weight 17.8 troy oz. Note: Silver tea caddies are a rare form in early American silver.
